BIKE

How to Keep your Bike in Top Notch Condition?
How often do you clean your bike thoroughly, how to clean it and what to use to clean it very much depends on how often you bike and also what terrain you are on. There’s no hard rules in making sure it is squeaky clean, but there’s one rule, be sure it is clean so that the body of the bike lasts longer.
WHAT YOU NEED

  1. WD-40 Specialist® Bike Cleaner
  2. WD-40 Specialist® Bike Degreaser
  3. WD-40 Specialist® Bike Dry Chain Lube
  4. WD-40 Specialist® Bike Wet Chain Lube
  5. WD-40 Specialist® Bike Chain Lube

Time

  • 10 MINUTES - Quick Clean
  • 20 MINUTES - Deep Clean with scrubbing

Here are a few tips on all the how-tos and what to use on which parts of the bike, check it out in detail on our WD-BIKE playlist!
STEPS
1. Spray down your bike with clean water to remove large debris and dirt.
2. Spray WD-40 Specialist® Bike Cleaner to help dissolve tough grease and grime on the bike, not forgetting the underside of the frame and fork where the heaviest gunk resides. For quick clean, just spray and wipe; for a deep clean, spray, scrub and rinse with water.
3. Alternatively for deep clean, opt for warm soapy water, use a soft sponge to give your bike a thorough scrub on the frame, brakes, saddle, rims and remove the wheels for a good scrub.
4. To properly degrease chain, put your bike on a work stand and shift into the largest chain ring and the middle of the cassette. Spray WD-40 Specialist® Bike Degreaser again on the chain and chain rings, drivetrain, derailleurs, sprockets and let those grime melt away.

Scrub off heavy grime with a stiff brush. Wet a sponge with water and add some WD-40 Specialist® Bike Degreaser to the center. Fold the sponge in half and make a chain sandwich. Back pedal and get the foam into the chain then rinse off.
5. After all the cleaning is done and thorough, wipe dry with a clean cloth, be sure to get those small nooks and crannies as well.
6. Most importantly, lube your bike chains! When lubing your chain, drip the lube onto each individual roller instead of just applying a stream along the entire length of the chain. Be sure to run a rag over the chain after letting the lube set for a while. Any lube left on the outside of the chain will be a magnet for dirt and grime!
